‘We too find it difficult’: A consideration of site-based Holocaust education as emotional labour

Among the growing body of literature concerning teaching and learning about Holocaust, very little research has explored experiences teachers from an emotional perspective. This study considers emotion work done by educators who are Holocaust at site Auschwitz-Birkenau. Through lens ‘emotional labour’, explores how articulate their work, they manage emotions in situ . The findings reveal a complex interplay self-preservation that results variously altering extent to which ‘present’ choose withdraw themselves emotionally certain exhibits or spaces museum. also reveals benefits informal support network exists between educators, as well various routines adopt help them work. It is argued this paper highlight need for further into teach difficult histories such this, similar more diverse contexts.
